Child and Teen Psychology Assessments.
As a parent, it can be challenging to watch your child struggle academically, socially, or emotionally. Psychological assessments can provide insight and shed light on your child’s strengths and weaknesses and can provide you with guidance on how to best help your child or teen.
At Rethink Psychology, we offer a wide range of assessments, including:
Cognitive assessments.
Learning and academic difficulties assessments.
Giftedness assessments.
Assessment of developmental disorders.
Assessment of challenges with concentration and self-control (ADHD).
Assessment of emotional and behavioural problems (such as anxiety, depression, oppositional defiant disorder, conduct disorder).
Functional behaviour assessments for complex behaviours and Child Safety.
Each assessment is specially designed for your child and will aim to investigate all your concerns. The assessment process may include clinical interviews, observations in the home and school environment, and a range of tailored psychometric tests. The information collected through this process will be reviewed and interpreted by your psychologist. You will be provided with a clinical report which includes the results and what this means for your child. The report will also include practical and relevant recommendations for how to best support your child. Your psychologist will provide an assessment feedback session to guide you through the report and to answer any questions you may have.
What to expect during the assessment process?
It can be overwhelming to decide on which assessment you need and what to expect ahead. Discussing your needs with your psychologist and understanding the assessment process can help ease those concerns.
-
Information about the presenting problems and contributing factors will be collected through interviews, observations, and reading of relevant documents.
-
The specially selected tests will be administered either in person or online.
-
The writing of your report can take anywhere from several days to several months depending on the complexity and length of the report.
-
Once your assessment report is ready, your psychologist will arrange a time to discuss it with you to ensure that you understand the results and recommendations.
